It’s a tradition to go out for dinner when it’s our birthday. We get to choose where we go: which have been many different places over the years! This time we combined my birthday dinner with my boyfriends’ and decided to go to ‘t Wapen van Marion.
We chose from the a la carte menu and had a starter, main and of course dessert. Want to know how we experienced this? Continue reading…
We tried booking so many restaurants, all fully booked. Even this one was supposedly full, but when we called they said we could book the high table. We are all still young (yes, even my parents) so that was okay for us.
First impression of ‘t Wapen van Marion
It’s quite a large restaurant, but luckily it’s not that noisy. The area is bright and open, and has a warm atmosphere. The bar is situated right in the middle.
There’s an area for children to play and this seems to be the only real negative aspect of this restaurant. For parents with kids it’s great, but for the other guests… not so much. The kids are screaming and running around, banging the plastic walls. Quite horrible, and so loud. Luckily it was bed time soon!
We were welcomed by the staff members, but they all seemed too busy for small talk.
Staff was friendly and efficient, which is quite important on a busy day like that. They all seemed to do their work with care. They expressed product knowledge and the right manners.
They provided us with a simple but satisfying menu. We chose three courses, which meant that we received some sort of discount.
I started off with a classic: carpaccio. Really delicious. Thinly sliced meat, great seasoning, delicious sauce on top… I was really positive and shared bites with everyone else at the table! I received a fork full of duck from the boyfriend as well, which was quite different. They paired the duck with some sort of ice cream like orange mousse, which I didn’t really like. That’s personal of course.
For main I ordered the oven baked salmon with shrimps. Nothing too special but executed very well, and they added seaweed which I thought was something new. I enjoyed it a lot! The sides we received were rather nice as well: Fries, some sort of potatoes that were really tasty, and apple slices (?!). That was a first! The apple slices were steamed or boiled or something, and topped with cinnamon. This actually paired really well with the mains!
My dessert was a tiramisu. It was a little dry but quite nice all the while: even the orange flavoured ice cream which I normally would never order.
Everything was good and tasty, but nothing too extraordinary. Staff was friendly, just a bit busy on this Saturday night.
‘t Wapen van Marion is the perfect restaurant for a simple but tasty dinner. I would advise going on a week day as that might provide you with a quieter atmosphere, and ask for a table as far away from the kids corner as possible!

That’s it for today guys, I’ll be back soon with more. Thanks for visiting my blog!
I’ve noticed I have some regular visitors, yay! So exciting. I’m really glad to have you all here 🙂 I would like to ask a favour. I know nearly all of us internetters (haha) are using Ad-block, including myself. However, if you turn ad block off at specific websites, like mine, you help us bloggers develop further. I want to continue blogging, as I still have so much to write about! 😀
