In this blog I review the 3-course ‘surprise dinner’ we enjoyed from Maritz Slow Food, brought to our home with Deliveroo Breda.
Being a blogger definitely isn’t easy: it requires hard work, and a lot of time! However, sometimes we get rewarded with fun things like a dinner brought to us by Deliveroo Breda. How this went? Read about it in this blog!
First of all, I’d like to point out that this blog contains my opinions and is not influenced by either Deliveroo or Maritz Slow Food. As part of the marketing campaign of Deliveroo Breda I received the meal and PR package, but I am not further compensated for this post or anything else I share.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the following post:
Thank you team @deliveroo_nl for this cool care package 😂 I'm glad I don't have to deliver on my bike through the rain, but I'd sure as hell be more than ready! Oh, and love the Tony's chocolonely too 😏can't wait to order, more soon! (Pssst! Use VIVILAVIDA for a 5 euro discount!) #foodblog #foodie #foodshare
Yes, I received this package filled with deliveroo goodies, chocolate and wine. And not only that: I received account credit, to spend on Deliveroo Breda restaurants!
First of all, let me explain what Deliveroo is. It’s basically a delivery service except they don’t only pick up fast food: they deliver food from your favourite restaurants! Restaurants that normally wouldn’t deliver are now available at home with just a click away, how cool is that?! Especially for people like me, who sometimes prefer to stay inside but always crave good food.
And then? Well, this small blogger from Breda was found (at Instagram, I think!) and contacted by the PR company working with Deliveroo Breda. They only recently started expanding their services in larger cities in the Netherlands, so they were looking for some people to test and review their services. Errrrm, yes please?! How could I say no to that!
So, the boyfriend and I decided that a lazy Saturday evening was the perfect time to test this service. Deliveroo Breda so far works together with around 20 restaurants, so there was a lot to choose from! After scrolling through nearly all of their menus (yes, I’m thorough!) we decided on Maritz Slow Food. We opted for the surprise menu: one fish, one meat.
We planned our delivery at 17.45, and were meanwhile speculating about what would happen next. No need to speculate: their app tells you EXACTLY what’s going on! Big brother is watching you…. “Your delivery is now being prepared in the restaurant” And as if that wasn’t enough, we could actually track our delivery guy (on a bike) with GPS. No more waiting anxiously for the doorbell to ring: we knew exactly where he was at! He arrived five minutes early.
When we opened the door we were greeted by a super friendly guy, who mainly spoke English but learned some Dutch sentences as well. When he opened the box he carries at the back of his bike we saw that one of the boxes had leaked some sauce, and he offered to cycle all the way back to get us a new dish! Of course this wasn’t necessary, it looked worse than it actually was.
Overall impression of Deliveroo: positive! It would be nice if there were even more restaurants to choose from (I’d never leave the house again) but since they only just started, I can’t wait to see what is still to come. Also a big plus: the delivery by bike! Very environmental friendly.
Maritz Slow Food
So, we ordered the 3 course surprise menu from Maritz Slow Food in Breda. It’s still a total mystery for us: we had no idea what we were eating! Tip for next time: a little card explaining what’s in which course would be appreciated. I for example took a big bite of something that turned out to be something similar to a crab cake, and I absolutely don’t like crab….
Luckily I’m not allergic. Anyway, I’ll show you a picture of how the food arrived, which was in black boxes. Pretty okay. Unfortunately the plastic used to seal the boxes wasn’t of high quality, and since we started with our cold starters our main course wasn’t really warm once we started eating them. This was quite a shame, and since they offer delivery for quite some time, I’d expect a better solution for this. Eating luke-warm salmon isn’t that nice!
Starters were perfectly fine: chicken skewers and some sort of meat in the meat version, and the crab cake (?) with shrimps in the fish one. Both served with bread and salad and a little quiche with tomato.
As I said, our main courses were a little cold, making it way less nice to eat them… But other than that we were quite satisfied. I received salmon in some sort of herby sauce with simple green beans and potato wedges, and the boyfriend received some sort of curry with rice. No pictures of that dish unfortunately: since the sun was going down, it became impossible to take good photos!
Dessert was obviously my favourite course: cheesecake. Nice crumbly crust, dense but still fluffy cheesecake layer on top…. Mmmmm! Their dessert menu looked so good, I would have ordered only desserts if I got the chance!
Overall impression of the food we ordered: so-so. Flavour was okay, starters and desserts were fine, main course would have been fine but maybe a bit boring if still hot. The food was definitely nice, but we weren’t sure if we’d order again for that price. More luck next time! And my opinion probably would’ve been very different had we eaten at the actual restaurant, and not at home. Keep that in mind!
Have you ever tried ordering with Deliveroo? And what were your experiences? I’m planning on ordering SUSHI next time I’m home alone, I can’t wait!
